HOW WE WORK

Frequently asked questions

The suitability of a headstone for a cemetery can vary, as different cemeteries comply with their own set criteria for local bylaws, this means they have their own rules and guidelines. What is permitted in one cemetery, may not be permitted in another. We can provide personalized advice on headstone options that comply with the chosen cemetery’s regulations and bylaws.

It’s important to highlight that Urupā burial grounds and private cemeteries typically do not impose formal restrictions. However, we consistently approach our work with mindfulness and respect, working closely with the trustees and kaumatua of these cemeteries to ensure adherence to acceptable standards.

Our entire consultation process can be easily conducted via email and phone, regardless of your location. We have a well-established history of supplying memorials, not only within New Zealand but also to the Pacific and nearby islands. Your memorial requirements can be efficiently addressed through email and phone consultations, eliminating the need for a physical showroom visit. You are welcome to view our range in person at one of our showrooms as it offers the personalised consultation many people prefer.

The price of a memorial typically includes either the installation within Taranaki, or delivery within New Zealand to any main centre (conditions apply). We also freight to the islands. If you have specific requirements or questions, please get in touch with us, and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs in more detail. We are happy to install a memorial outside of Taranaki, but this will require you to check with our team for costs.

Our memorial costs encompass all wording in either white or silver on the face of the headstone. Opting for gold lettering comes with a charge that reflects the use of premium 23-carat gold leaf. Additional costs apply for engraving on surfaces beyond the face of the headstone. For further information on your specific needs and associated expenses, please reach out to us.

In public cemeteries across New Zealand, the installation of headstones may only be installed by registered monumental masons, such as Headstone Warehouse, as per council regulations. This will also include ensuring the permit and required paperwork is submitted to council correctly. In Urupā however, Whānau have the cultural option and encouragement to handle the installation themselves if desired.

Pre-planning a memorial is a common, thoughtful and proactive choice for individuals who wish to shape their own memorial in a way that reflects and honours their wishes and preferences. Many also opt for pre-planning to alleviate the stress on their families during an emotional time. The memorial should be chosen and paid for in advance (subject to T&C’s in line with NZMMMA prefinanced paperwork). All arrangements can be put in place except for the final dates. We’ve dedicated efforts to streamline the process, ensuring it’s straightforward and devoid of any daunting aspects. Our aim is to make sure everything aligns precisely with your vision.

The turnaround time for a memorial varies based on factors unique to each job. Generally speaking, simple designs take around 4 weeks, while complex projects may extend to 3 months. To ensure you know what the time frame potentially maybe, we recommend reaching out to discuss specific date and turnaround requirements. We will always prioritise unveiling dates.

We currently have a diverse inventory with over 2000 memorial pieces physically in stock. Additionally, we regularly place orders for special or bespoke memorials. If your timeframe for an unveiling date is tight, proactive planning is recommended. If we need to order specific pieces, please be aware that shipments take approximately 4 months to arrive. Get in touch with us to discuss your individual needs, and we can provide guidance on whether any items need to be ordered in for your requirements.

Certainly! Adding artwork to a memorial is highly encouraged to personalize and create a unique tribute. This personal touch serves as a beautiful way to encapsulate and illustrate the life and character of your loved one, fostering fond memories during visits to the grave.

Absolutely! Recognizing the significance of honouring our furry family members and the scarcity of choices in the market, we are actively working on introducing a dedicated collection of pet memorials. Reach out to us to explore the various options and discuss how we can create a beautiful homage to your treasured companion.

The lifespan of our memorials, crafted from enduring granite that’s already millions of years old, is essentially eternal. Granite is chosen for its timeless durability being a permanent material. Nevertheless, it’s important to recognize that the paint, akin to house paint, is not everlasting. The life of paintwork depends largely on the location of your memorial, how much exposure to the elements it receives, and how it is cared for and maintained. Proper maintenance is key for optimal longevity.
